Report: New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships

The School’s Swimming team competed in the New Zealand Secondary School Championships in Wellington during the first week of Term 3.

Captain of Swimming J. J. Kennard displayed technical skill and experience, earning silver medals in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke, along with two bronze medals in the 50m breaststroke and 200m medley events respectively.

Form 5 student O. W. Bower earned well-deserved bronze medals in both the 100m and 200m backstroke races.

In the junior category, Form 3 student C. Yin secured gold in both the 100m and 200m butterfly events, while fellow classmate and 2023 Junior Swimming Champion M. Sun claimed the gold medal in the 50m butterfly and secured bronze medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle races. Form 4 student Y. Lee earned bronze in the 200m breaststroke.

In the relay events the School was represented well, with both the Junior 4 x 50m medley and 4 x 100m freestyle relay teams securing well-deserved bronze medals.

O. W. Bower, M. Sun, Y. Yee, C. Yin and Captain J. J. Kennard all crossed stage on Wednesday 26 July to receive their individual medals and the School’s congratulations.

Congratulations to the team on the way they represented the School at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships with talent, determination, and sportsmanship. A special thanks to Master in Charge J. Potaka and G. Martin for their guidance and support of the team.
