Report: Auckland Secondary Schools Skiing Championships

During the last week of Term 2, the Auckland Secondary Schools Skiing Championships were held at Snowplanet. There were over 100 competitors and Auckland Grammar School entered a team of 20.

In the Slope Style event, Form 7 student F. R. Rhodes Macrae was second and and Form 6 student S. R. Pratt was third.

In the timed Ski Race event run down two courses, Form 6 student S. N. R. Lyne was second with a combined time of 29.21 seconds with Form 7 student G. J. B. Pilkington was third with a time of 30.53 seconds. Other notable times were S. R. Pratt (31.18 seconds to finish in sixth place) and Form 7 student R. J. McElwee (31.85 seconds in ninth place).

In the last event of the day – the Ski Dual Race knock-out race – Auckland Grammar School skiers were regularly competing against one another. Undeterred, S. N. R. Lyne won the event with S. R. Pratt in third, G. J. B Pilkington in fourth and F. R. Rhodes Macrae finishing in sixth.

The School’s skiers performed consistently to podium and earn points, ensuring they retained the Auckland Secondary School Skiing Championships.

As the overall Boys Champion, S. N. R. Lyne crossed stage during the first week of Term 3 to receive his gold medal and the School’s congratulations.
