NISS and NZSS Orienteering Championships

During the second week of the Term 2 holiday break, the School’s Orienteering team competed at both the North Island and the New Zealand Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships which were both held in Auckland. The North Island Championship involved technical races while the national event had simpler running focused races.

At the North Island Championships, Form 4 student S. C. Randerson was sixth in the sprint event and fourth in the long event. The junior boys’ relay team, consisting of Form 3 students LJ. C. Bickley, L. M. Cameron and L. D. Carter were second. At the conclusion of the Championship, Auckland Grammar School was second overall in the boys’ competition. 

At the National Secondary Schools Championship Form 3 student B. D. H. Dransfield was eighth in both the long and sprint events in the significantly more competitive junior grade. In the intermediate grade, S. C. Randerson was sixth in both races.

In the relays, the junior team of Dransfield alongside classmates J. A. Gunson and M. A. I. Stewart was second in their event and the senior team consisting of Form 6 students O. J. Gunson, F. C. Muthu and 2022 Captain of Orienteering B. G. Carter were third in their competition.

Overall, the team gained second place in the Top Boys School competition at the National Championships. B. D. H. Dransfield, O. J. Gunson and B. G. Carter crossed stage in Week 1 of Term 3 to receive their awards and the School’s congratulations,
