Auckland Secondary Schools Disc Ultimate Championships

On Sunday 13 March, Auckland Grammar School had the Premier I and II Disc Ultimate teams competing at the Auckland Secondary Schools Outdoor Championships in Takanini.

Both teams started strongly, with the Premier I team playing Avondale College, Westlake Boys’ High School and Selwyn College to advance undefeated to the final.

The Premier II team, consisting largely of students in Forms 3 and 4, had a more difficult road, defeating Avondale College, but then losing to the Premier I team, Both teams started strongly, with the Premier I team playing Avondale College, Westlake Boys’ High School and Selwyn College to eventually finish fourth. This is a fantastic effort given that they were playing in the first division.

The Premier I team then played a hard-fought final against a strong Westlake Boys’ High School side. Both teams set their stamp early on the game and scored from long passes. However, the consistency, determination, and level-headedness of the Premier I side allowed the team to stay in the game and capitalise on a Westlake turnover to win 5-4 and retain the Auckland Championship trophy for another year.

Congratulations to students in both teams and to Master in Charge Mr Warren Buckingham for his continued support and guidance of the sport.
