COVID Update - Monday 15 February 2021

Dear Parents,

It is our intention to provide you with a daily update over the 3 days the School is closed as Auckland remains in Alert Level 3. As already communicated, the closure affects all on-campus instruction and extracurricular activities for all students.

As you receive this email, your son should have completed today's 7 timetabled lessons on-line by accessing GrammarNet. We encourage you to talk with your son about the work he has completed and/or submitted today. Should your son have any questions or concerns about the work set he should feel comfortable to communicate directly with his classroom teacher via the Staff Directory on the School's website or a social stream on his GrammarNet class page.

The work that teachers provided to their classes today were "do now" activities for 40-minute lessons, which allowed us to begin teaching online quickly across the whole School and build on the focused nature of the first three weeks of teaching.

Tomorrow, students will notice that the teaching and expectations of them may change as all teachers deliberately apply the elements within the Auckland Grammar School Teaching Framework. This framework is designed to support both teaching and learning in an online context.

For your information the School asks teachers to minimise the use of synchronous teaching using tools such as Zoom. I will provide you with further information about our considered approach in the coming weeks so that you can understand the decisions we have made about online teaching and learning at our School.

Tuesday 16 February logistics:

  • A livestreamed assembly will take place at 9am tomorrow morning (see link below).  All students are expected to view this assembly where further information will be provided to them
  • Lessons for the day will be available on GrammarNet after assembly tomorrow morning
  • All students are expected to complete the set work for each of their timetabled lessons tomorrow

For your diary:

  • The calendared Teacher Only Day on Friday 12 March will not go ahead, and will instead return to a normal teaching day. The professional development planned for that day will be rescheduled with an aim of reducing any impediment for on-campus or face-to-face lessons

GrammarNet:

  • Any student who still needs to access their username and password should email our IT team at parents.helpdesk@ags.school.nz
  • Additional information about GrammarNet is available on the home page of the School website
  • Parents can access your son's GrammarNet account to see his classwork. The login information for GrammarNet is the same as your Parent Portal username and password

For the next two days:

  • Sons of essential workers may arrive at School for supervised on-line instruction. Parents of affected students should email b.skeen@ags.school.nz to inform the School of their son's need to be on campus, before he reports to room A1 in the Main Block at 8:50am via the South door
  • All School activities have been postponed until further notice. This includes the Athletic championships that have been rescheduled for Monday 22 February. Students participating in these championships will receive further information later this week
  • The School campus is closed to the School community and general public until further notice

Please note:
There will be a livestreamed daily assembly tomorrow, starting at 9am. All students are expected to view this assembly, where further updates will be provided. You can access the assembly here.

We will provide further updates to the School community in the coming days. Thank you for your continued support.
