This award is made to the young man who has been most conspicuous for the following qualities: -
- Devotion to the school and its traditions;
- Service and self-sacrifice;
- General conduct inside and outside the school;
- Character, bearing and manner;
- Sense of responsibility and school spirit.
The record over the whole of a young man's school career, or most of it, will have to be considered.
The 2020 recipient is G.H Miles
George is an effervescent character who a parochial Grammar boy. He is an able all-round student. He has worked with determination and advance his academic standing by achieving superb academic grades in AS Economics Business Studies, Geography and Physical Education. His academic achievements earned him membership in the Scholars’ Group – Proceres Grammatici this year.
He has been committed to School life throughout his five years and found his niche with rowing as a member of the Under 18 squad in 2020. He is community-minded and as such has given back to others through the Headmaster’s Heritage Committee and the Interact Group. While the opportunities were limited this year, George led the Augusta Army with flair – ably admired by us all for his spirit, enthusiasm and commitment.
George has been this year’s Deputy Head Prefect. He has contributed extensively to the tone and culture of the School in this role working in real partnership with Michael. He has shown a real sense of responsibility and pride in his School and it is through his actions earned the respect of us all. He has been a leader who has acted in the best interest of his peers and the School.
George is compassionate and selfless, always responding with modesty, respect and good humour. He has lived the School’s values and in doing so endorsed ‘The Grammar Way’.
George has contributed, led and achieved well. He has respected Grammar traditions and supported the ethos of Auckland Grammar School through his service, character, bearing and manner.
