Earlier in the term the Premier I and II Disc Ultimate teams competed in the Auckland Championships at Avondale College. Both teams displayed excellent skill and composure against their opposition, with the Premier I team in particular showing dominance, winning the final against Westlake Boys' High School to take out the Auckland title for consecutive years.
Both teams then travelled to Taupo as part of Summer Tournament Week for the New Zealand Secondary Schools National Championships. Grammar dominated the competition, with the Premier I team not conceding a point until their fourth game in pool play.
Clinical execution of throws and fast game-pace allowed for an easy 13-4 victory over Takapuna Grammar School in the quarter-final, and then a 13-1 victory against Onslow College in the semi-final.
A repeat of the Auckland competition final, the Premier I team showed its depth against Westlake Boys' High School, retaining their composure and playing high quality ultimate to win the title 13-2, again for consecutive years.
Over the eight games of the competition, the team scored 101 points for, and just 13 against - a statistic which speaks volumes about the quality of this team; and the captain, N. J. Whitlock, was awarded overall MVP of the tournament, a fitting recognition of his ability and individual contribution.
The Premier I team crossed stage on Wednesday 5 April to receive the trophy for the Auckland Championship, trophies and medals for winning the 2017 New Zealand Secondary School Championship. As National Champions they will remain on stage to receive the School's congratulations.
