The 2017 School Swimming Championships were held on Wednesday 8 February at the Lagoon Pool Complex in Panmure. The School's best swimmers contested a variety of races from 50m to 200m across all strokes.
In the Junior Championship, with a pleasingly large number of entries, J. C. G. Klink 3M was the victor, winning five of the six events he contested. L. S. Matenga 3M was very consistent with one first and three second placings to cement second place overall and J. C. George 3E was third.
The Intermediate Championship was a very close contest with only four points separating the top three. C. S. Poole 5A emerged the winner by one point over A. P. Curtis 6E1. M. J. E Clarke 4D was three points back in third place.
In the Senior Championship, Captain of Swimming A. J. Falconer 7F, in an impressive performance, demonstrated his commitment and talent to win five of the six races he contested. O. Chen 7E came home strongly for three second placings and one third to narrowly push L. W. Tattersfield 7D, also with three second placings, into third place.
Overall the competition was tight and several long standing school records are within reach of the School's top swimmers this year. The performances augur well for the regional and national competitions to be held in the coming months.
Special thanks are extended to Master in Charge of Swimming, Mr Wadams and the staff and prefects who assisted with the organization of the annual swimming sports.
