Violin and Viola

Violin and Viola

The violin is played as a member of the string section in both Symphony Orchestra and and the Grammar Virtuosi. Form 5 students learning the violin also have the option to learn viola.

As one of the most popular instruments, the standard is very high. We tend not to recommend that complete beginners start violin in Form 3, but instead consider playing the cello, double bass, a brass or woodwind instrument, or percussion.

Instrument hire can be arranged through the Music department, subject to availability - please contact Mrs Mackenzie, the Music department administrator, for further information.

Both the Violin and viola are taught by Dr Thomson - click here to enrol in lessons
