Bassoon

The bassoon is the bass voice of the woodwind family. It is an instrument of tremendous character, equally at home as the 'joker' of the woodwind section or as a deeply sensitive, expressive instrument. Students who play the bassoon are able to join the Symphony Orchestra, the Premier Concert Band and the Wind Band.

Taught by Mrs Brinkman and known to be more of an 'unusual' instrument, it is perfect for someone who wants to stand out from the crowd. Good bassoon players are rare and become sought-after musicians. Instrument hire can be arranged through the Music department, subject to availability - please contact Mrs Mackenzie, the Music department administrator, for further information.

"The bassoon is one of my favourite instruments. It has a medieval aroma, like the days when everything used to sound like that. Some people crave baseball...I find this unfathomable, but I can easily understand why a person could get excited about playing the bassoon." - Frank Zappa
