Student Achievements - March/April 2018

In addition to the student achievements we have acknowledged during assemblies, we would also like to congratulate those students who have participated in recent regional and national competitions in their chosen sports, including Athletics, Cycling, Football, Lacrosse, Mountain Biking, Softball and Triathlon.


Athletics: Joel Naufahu 4G was selected to represent Auckland at the New Zealand Interprovincial Athletics Grade 12 and 13 Competition held in New Plymouth over Easter.

Baseball: Oliver Collier 4F, Theo Gray 4K and Muriwaka Repia 5K played for their respective club teams in the Under 16 Baseball National competition held in Auckland in March.

Cycling: Barnaby Clegg-Shaw 6G competed in the Oceania Cycling Championships held in Tasmania at the end of March.

Football: Vishay Reddy 4M, Samuel Chung 5C, Finn McCracken 5H, Thomas Drillien 6E, Nicholas Shaw 6I and Boyd Curry 7H were selected to play for their respective Club sides in the National Under 17 Football Tournament held in Auckland.

Horse of the Year Event: Finlay Cranch 5F competed at the 2018 Horse of the Year International event in Hastings where he successfully trialled for the New Zealand team to compete at the Nations Competition in Kentucky, USA in July. Finlay also competed in the MGA Individual Championships held in Whanganui over Easter.

Lacrosse: Spencer Clark 5M, Thomas Currie 7H and Jamieson Tuigamala-Tutini 7H1 represented New Zealand in an International Lacrosse Tournament in Australia over Easter. Spencer was also selected, along with Li Zhou 3M and Tyler Jacobsen 4J, for the New Zealand Under 15 Boys Lacrosse team which competed against Australia in Auckland over Easter.

Mountain Biking: Austin Sue 7H competed in the Crankworx Mountain Biking international competition in the highly competitive Junior Men's category in Downhill.

Rugby: Saula Mau 7G1 was invited to attend the New Zealand Rugby Tight 5 Clinic at the Sport and Rugby Institute in Palmerston North early in March. This invitation followed his involvement in the NZ Barbarians Schools programme last year.

Sailing: Ruijing Shi 3D competed in the Interislander Optimist and Starling Sailing Regatta held in Picton.

Softball: Alex Giboney 3G was invited to join the International Softball Academy's Under 14 Boys New Zealand Selection Team to compete in the New South Wales Softball Junior International Challenge.

Surf Life Saving:

  • Felix Maddison 3G competed at the National Oceans 2018 Under 14 Surf Life Saving Championships.
  • Jack Dufaur 6F travelled to Gisborne to compete in the four day Nationals where he competed in team and individual events.

Special Athletics Championships: Michael Percival-Afeaki 5R entered in the College Sport Greater Auckland Athletic Championships at Mt Smart Stadium in the Long Jump.

Swimming: Spencer Menzies 3F, Joshua Drake 3H, Sam Maberly 3I, Luca Matenga 4K and Daniel Walker 5D  all represented their respective club sides at the 2018 Swim New Zealand Division II meet in Rotorua. Joshua won a silver medal in the 12-13 year old boys 100m breaststroke.

Triathlon: Luke Hair 3H competed in the National Aquathlon Championships and the National Triathlon Championships held at Rabbit Island in Nelson. Luke was placed 2nd in the Under 13 Boys' Aquathlon and combined with Luke Blackwood 3C and two Baradene girls to form a Mixed team which won the Under 14 Mixed Team event.
