E-Learning

For the past 18 months, Auckland Grammar School has been working on the introduction of a new learning management system called Schoolbox. As we introduce it to students, it will take the place of our legacy system, Grammar Net, which will be completely phased out from the end of 2018.

Since the beginning of 2018, all Form 5 and 6 students have had access to class pages on Schoolbox. These pages contain information from their teachers and links to the various courses and units of work. From February 2019, all students at all levels will have this provision.

What is Schoolbox?

Schoolbox is a safe and structured forum for teachers and students to interact online. Class pages allow teachers to provide their students with access to digital content such as slideshows, notes, forms and audio-visual content, as well as access to the courses of learning that have been constructed by their departments.

Course pages allow departments to consolidate and present the key concepts, knowledge and skills that they are aiming to develop for their learners all in one place in a coherent form.

Additionally students can access information about groups to which they belong, forms that they need to fill in, and calendar, timetable and notice information.

Some of Schoolbox's features include:

  • A quiz module for teachers to provide frequent low stakes formative assessment and revision opportunities
  • Homework and set task modules for teachers to be better able to provide feedback on students' work
  • A portfolio function which enables students to keep a record of their learning, as well as to reflect on lessons and units of work
  • A plagiarism checker with which Auckland Grammar teachers are empowered to further ensure that the highest standards of academic fidelity are encouraged and maintained.

Why are we doing this?

Vision: Auckland Grammar School sets the standard for pre-eminence in boys' secondary education. In 2017, our students gained 186 scholarships, we had students performing at the top of academic achievement both for New Zealand, and globally. These are significant achievements and are a direct result of expert instruction from our teaching staff. But we are not content to rest on this record and we always strive to do more for our young men. Schoolbox provides our specialist teachers with another powerful tool to further our vision.

Values: We strive to uphold the values of integrity, excellence, respect, courage, pride, commitment and humility. Schoolbox is another forum for us to engage with the wider academic, sporting and cultural lives of our young men in order to model and promote these values.

Mission: We expect our students to pursue excellence in acquiring knowledge and skills while embracing and upholding our values. In March 2018, there were over 100,000 student logins; there is a thirst for knowledge among our students. Schoolbox provides another platform for teachers to provide explicit and expert instruction, and for students to take agency over their own learning.

All Auckland Grammar School students are currently able to log in to Schoolbox and entering their Grammar username and password.
