2025 Senior Student Leaders

On Wednesday 22 January in the first full School assembly for the year, the Headmaster announced the student leaders who will lead the student body for the 2025 academic year.
The Head Prefect for 2025 is J. M. Hiddleston.
The 2025 Head Prefect is a young man has been a consistent contributor to School life over the past four years.
In an academic sense last year, James worked positively to earn sound grades in AS English Literature, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as A Level Mathematics. This year, he is studying A Level English, Biology, Physics and AS Geography.
He has also been committed to the wider life of the School throughout his tenure at Grammar. This has included being a member of the Senior Athletics team who competed at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships in December, playing 4A Rugby as well as being a member of the Interact Group, the Chronicle Committee, the Headmaster’s Heritage Committee and the Kia Mate Uroroa programme. In 2024 he earned the Josh Hartner Memorial Award for Character, Effort and Leadership Potential.
Masters involved with this young man describe him as personable, gregarious and engaging. He is someone who is prepared to persevere to progress his learning or to achieve personal goals. His maturity and dependability have seen him earn the respect of his peers and staff alike.
James has developed credibility as a student as he has consistently exhibited respect, humility and courage through his words, actions and general demeanour.
The Deputy Head Prefect for 2025 is C. G. Howlett.
The 2025 Deputy Head Prefect is a diligent student who has been committed to his studies and extracurricular activities throughout his tenure.
In an academic sense last year, Charles sat AS Business, Economics, English Literature, Geography and Mathematics in 2023 and this year is he will study A Level Geography and AS English, Business and Physical Education.
Charles has been actively involved in School life as a member of the Senior Athletics team who competed at New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships in December, Senior Swimming team, the 2nd XV Rugby team and the Tuakana Teina programme.
Charles earned Colours in 2024 for Athletics, the Douglas Carnahan Cup for Senior Hurdles, the Old Boys Cup for 400m and the Ross Cup for most outstanding performance in athletics.
Charles has quietly led by example, showing humility and building integrity. Masters have described Charles as focused, mature, and determined. He is a contributor with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
There are four Senior Prefects who will assist the Head and Deputy Head Prefect for 2025:
C. T. V. Fearon
Charles is a self-motivated and enthusiastic young man who has worked diligently to achieve well in the Cambridge programme. He is studying A Level English, Economics, and Geography and AS Level Business Studies.
He has contributed to School life and displayed character in his approach He has been a member of the Senior Athletics team, the 3rd XI Football team, Senior Swimming Team, the Headmaster’s Heritage Committee and Tennis Senior A3.
L. C. Klouwens
Lachlan achieved sound academic grades in Cambridge AS Level last year. He is studying A Level Economics, Product Design and Physics and AS Level Physical Education this year.
He has embraced School life showing determination and commitment in and out of the classroom. He has been a member of the 1st XI Hockey team, the Intermediate Swimming team, Senior Brown Cricket and the Interact Group.
In 2024, Lachlan also earned Colours for Hockey and the Roger Twigden Memorial Cup for outstanding ability and team spirit.
K. J. P. McQueen
Kohatu earned sound grades in the NCEA Level 2 programme last year. This year he is studying NCEA Level 3 Biology, English, Mathematics, Physical Education and and Te Reo Māori.
He is an active and well-rounded student who has genuinely engaged with School life. In an extracurricular sense he has been involved with the Tuakana Teina programme, Premier Volleyball team, the 2nd XV Rugby team and the SADD (Students Against Dangerous Driving) group. He is also the Leader of the In Zone Hostel this year.
In 2024, Kohatu earned the Harrison Scott Memorial Award for Diligence, Determination and Courage.
C. P. Wagener
Caleb earned sound academic grades in the Cambridge AS programme last year. This year he is studying A Level Geography, Physics and Spanish and AS Level Physical Education.
Caleb is a well-rounded, high performing student who has excelled academically and with sport. In 2024 he was the School’s Sportsman of the Year, earning Colours in Athletics, Distance Running and Multisport. He was a member of the Senior Athletics team, Senior Cycling team, the Distance Squad, the Orienteering, Senior Swimming and Triathlon teams, as well as the Senior Spanish Debating team and Interact Group.
Alongside earning numerous School awards, national titles and representing the country across codes in 2024, Caleb earned the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
