Winter Tournament - August 2011
Nine Grammar teams competed in various tournments around the country. The Premier Table Tennis team beat Macleans College in the final of their National tournament to crown a superb season. Basketball also went close reaching their final, but lost to Northern Region champions Rosmini College. 1st XI Football and U15 Rugby both had excellent tournaments both losing narrowly at the semi-final stage but both won their play-off match for 3rd place, the 1st XI beating MAGS and U15's defeating Napier Boys' High. Grammar Rowers Win Maadi Cup 2011
On Saturday 2 April Grammar Rowing had its best ever Maadi Cup Regatta winning three Gold and two Silver medals. The U18 4's won the Springbok Shield for the first time and then completed the double by winning the Maadi Cup in the U18 8's final.

Central/East Zone Swimming Competition - March 2011

The Central/ East Zone Swimming Championships were held at Diocesan School on Wednesday 9 March.

The AGS team of 29 boys competed in all 25 boys’ events.

They faced some stiff opposition from Sacred Heart College, Mount Albert Grammar, Parnell College and Kings College.

From the twelve Individual Events, the team gained two 1st placings, and six 2nd placings.

The team won four of the thirteen relay events and came second place in five.

Individual Highlights

  • T Barlow was placed first in Junior 50 M Butterfly (31.87.s)
  • A Peach was placed first in Senior 50 M Breaststroke (32.53 s)

Special thanks to F. Bassett, Captain of Swimming for organising the entries and to Dr Jenks and Mr Beaumont for accompanying the team.

AGS Swimming Sports - February 2011

The AGS Swimming sports were held at the Panmure Lagoon and Leisure Pool on Wednesday February 9th.

It was pleasing to see that there were good numbers in all events and Grammar swimming will again be strong this year.

In the junior grade T Barlow 3N of Tibbs House was 1st in 2 events, the 50m Butterfly and the 50m Breaststroke. However the Champion was R Speirs 3G who won 5 events, 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle, 1st in the 50m Backstroke and 1st in the 200m Medley.

In the Intermediate Grade A Greer 5A was runner up winning the 200m Freestyle and 200m Medley. The Champion was B Xu 5E who won the 50m and 100m Freestyle titles and the 50m Butterfly race.

The Senior Championship was thrown wide open when the 2011 Swimming captain F Bassett broke his arm the day before the sports. P Richardson 7H proved he is an all round sportsman being runner up in the Senior Championship, by winning the 100m and 200m Freestyle races. However it was S Benson 7F who was crowned Senior Championship winning 4 events, the 50m Freestyle, the 50m Backstroke, the 50m Butterfly and the 200m Medley.

I would like to thank the students and officials who helped out at this event and a special thank you to Ms McNeill, the Master in Charge of Swimming for her organisation of the swimming sports.
