Mountain Biking Club 2011
The first thing that students and parents should realise is that almost all Mountain Biking activities will be held on Sundays - therefore will not interfere with other sports.
The focus will be on students who want to ride competitively
- For those who want more challenging grades of rides, cross country, downhill and to compete in inter-school and national championships.
- The AGS Club initiated an Auckland Inter School ‘The Winter Series’ of 4 XC races in terms II and III complete with cups and medals. Organising these is going to depend on help from parents and involvement of other schools - riders, parents, and teachers in charge.
- There will be training every WEDNESDAY for term I - probably at Riverhead or Albany (using School van and trailer - specifically for those intending going to the Nationals, others if room available - return time approx. 6.30pm); and a ride every Sunday for everybody leaving school at 7.45 am. Road Training should take place in terms II and III to maintain fitness and/or rides at Arch Hill.
- We intend to divide into 3 groups on Sundays: ‘Elite’ - high skills and fitness focus on National Champs; ‘Intermediate’ – good skills but weaker in fitness; and ‘novice’/social – who will focus on skills clinics, fun, and gradually build fitness. The idea is to get promoted into Group 1 and Group 2.
- There is an opportunity for those more interested at a 'social level' to ride with us on Sundays. This includes parents.
- Rides in the Auckland region on Sundays could take place at Woodhill Forest (sand based), Riverhead (Arimu Valley), Hunua Ranges (downhill and XC), Whitford, Albany, and Waharau (Thames side of Hunua's - XC and long downhill). All are approximately 45 - 60 minutes from AGS.
- There is a meeting every Friday to organise Sunday’s ride. (Destination + organising transport)
Expenses
- AGS Club fee of $120 (cheques payable to Auckland Grammar School). This covers:
- Contribution for petrol to go to parents who are regularly helping with transport on Sundays
- Upkeep of equipment (restock 1st aid kit etc.)
- Entry in to some Races (School can no longer afford to pay for all – Winter Series will have to be paid for)
- Entry into any Inter School races, Auckland Champs (XC end of March, and teams event in September), National Champs (Levin - middle of term I holidays, Rotorua in October) will be paid for by the School
- Transport and accommodation to the National champs will have to be met by the riders and parents attending
- AGS MTB club shirt about $105
Other expenses:
- Membership of the Auckland MTB Club?
- Woodhill Bike Park Fee (MUST GET A TAG)
- Entry to Auckland Counties-Manakau MTB XC series (4 X $15) at the end of year (there is also a 3 race downhill series for those inclined)?
