Important Notices from the Headmaster – July 2022

Leave Requests

A reminder as term concludes that any special leave requests for a student to have time off School should be emailed directly to the Headmaster’s Executive Assistant.

Requests for a student to compete at sporting, performing arts or cultural competitions can be considered, alongside requests for family bereavements or sickness. Please contact the Headmaster’s Executive Assistant Miss Debbie Watson via email at admin@ags.school.nz.

As parents begin to make plans for Christmas holidays please be aware the 2022 School concludes after Prizegiving on Wednesday 7 December. Leave will not be approved for students to go on holiday any earlier than the conclusion of Term 4.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Our thanks to all parents who attended Parent Teacher Interviews throughout the term. These are beneficial evenings for both parents and teachers, with a focus on working together to assist a young man’s progress. Thank you for your patience on these busy evenings.

Mid-Year Reports

The examinations students are currently sitting will be marked over the holiday period and discussed with students in the first week of Term 3. Teachers will then finalise mid-year reports and these will then be distributed electronically via the Parent Portal. We anticipate making these available in Week 4 of Term 3. Parents will be alerted to the availability of reports via email.

2022 Examination Fees

On Tuesday 5 July, parents of students who are sitting external examinations were sent an email containing important information about this year’s NZQA and Cambridge examinations fees.

Invoices have been posted on the Parent Portal and should now be readily accessible.

It is important to note that:

  • The final date for payment to be received is Thursday 11 August
  • After Tuesday 16 August, there is no refund of fees for withdrawal from Cambridge examinations, except on approved medical grounds, and any amendments to entries will incur a late fee from Cambridge

All examination entry fee payments should be made via the Parent Portal.

If you have a question or problem regarding the payment process, please email finance@ags.school.nz.

Cambridge AS Resits and NZQA Scholarship Examination Information

Cambridge May/June Series AS Resits: Examination results are due for online release to candidates on the evening of Thursday 11 August. Students will receive username and password details next term prior to the results release date.

Cambridge October/ November Series AS Resits: Entries are being taken for students who would like to do AS resits in the November 2022 series. The closing date for entries for AS resits for November 2022 is Friday 29 July. Students should carefully consider the possible negative effect of sitting extra examinations on their preparation for and performance in their A Level examinations which must be their top priority.

NZQA Scholarship Examinations: Entries will be taken next term for students who would like to sit NZQA Scholarship examinations. The final day for entries to be submitted is Friday 5 August.

Cambridge Revision Classes

The Association of Cambridge Schools in New Zealand (ACSNZ) is holding Cambridge Revision Classes during the Term 3 holidays (Monday 3 – Friday 14 October).

Experienced teachers of the Cambridge curriculum from across Auckland teach these classes. A range of subjects at AS and A2 level will be offered. All classes are held at Auckland Grammar School and the classes take place over one to three days, depending on the subject. Classes run from 9am-2:30pm each day.

Parents are recommended to register interest as places are limited and most classes fill up quickly. Further information about classes on offer, dates, costs and registration will be available on the ACSNZ website.

Traffic and Car Parking

Please refrain from entering Gates 2-4 on Mountain Road at busy times, such as the beginning or end of the school day when there is a high volume of pedestrian traffic entering and leaving the School.

Please refrain from using Barnett Crescent as a pick up/drop off area before and after School. This is an area for staff parking and is congested at the beginning and end of the School day.
