The Auckland Grammar School Community is a vast extended family stretching throughout New Zealand and internationally and this community forms an important cornerstone of the school.

Without the support of Parents, Old Boys' and Friends of the School many of the essential projects and facilities the School has would not be possible.

As the oldest school in Auckland (founded in 1869) it has a historic community that has a great pride in and sense of belonging to, the school. Auckland Grammar School is forever conscious of its commitment to the community that has so strongly and passionately supported it over the years.

Enrolment of Sons of Old Boys

The Education Amendment Act, passed in December 2010, allows for priority in the Out of Zone ballot to be afforded to children of former students of the school.
This means that sons of Old Boys living outside the zone can apply for priority status for their sons in the Out of Zone ballot for enrolment in 2012.

The order of priority in which applicants will be offered places is as follows:

  1. First priority must be given to any applicant who is accepted for enrolment in a special program run by the School (as defined in Section 11B of the Education Act 1989). This does not apply to Auckland Grammar School.
  2. Second priority will be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student at the School.
  3. Third priority will be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a former student of the School.
  4. Fourth priority will be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the School.
  5. Fifth priority will be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the School or a child of the member of the board of the school
  6. Sixth priority will be given to all other applicants.

How do Old Boys of the School living outside the zone but wishing to send their son(s) to Grammar enrol for the 2012 academic year?

  1. The 2012 Out of zone application form will be available on the school website and from Reception at the School from 27 June 2011.
  2. Applications MUST be received by the date set down by the Ministry of Education in the case of students applying for Form 3, and the date set down by the School for students applying for Forms 4 to 7. The former is usually the beginning of September in the previous year.
  3. Applicants will need to tick a new box claiming priority as the son of an Old Boy of the School. A birth certificate and exact dates of the father’s attendance at AGS will be required to enable the School to verify eligibility.

The School is committed to accommodating sons of Old Boys, however it is possible that the size of the school roll may mean that this category needs to be balloted in some years.
