Prep
Prep is the cornerstone of Tibbs House and will continue to be so in 2011.
The Prep rules for 2011 will be:
1. The bell will ring 5 minutes before Prep is due to start.
2. Boys are to be seated quietly at their desks by 7.00 p m. or the stated time for commencement of Prep.
3. No boy is to talk to another boy without the permission of the Master or Prefect on duty. If boys wish to find out information from other boys they must do so before Prep or during the Prep break, if there is one.
4. The Prep break is at the absolute discretion of the Master on duty. If held, it will commence at 8.00 p.m. sharp. The bell will ring again at 8.10 p.m. and all boys will be reseated at their desks by 8.15 p.m. Senior boys who have the privilege of studying in their rooms must not begin their Prep break until the prep break bell rings at 8.00 p.m.
5. There will be no borrowing of books, equipment, etc. except before Prep commences and during the Prep break.
6. Prep is not a time for reading books unless they are a set text for English or another subject. There is ample time for recreational reading (which is encouraged) at other times. Boys with 'no work' to do should revise, make summaries, prepare for new work, practise vocab and grammar, etc.
7. There will be no 'testing each other' in pairs or groups in the first half of Prep. This may be done in the second half of Prep solely at the discretion of the Master on duty.
8. Boys with 'nothing to do' will be given academic work to do by the Master on duty.
9. Senior boys who infringe the Prep rules may lose the privilege of working in their rooms.
10. Prep during exam time:
For the third, fourth and fifth form boys, Prep will be held during any exam hours in the Prep room.
For sixth and seventh formers, Prep will be held in their studies or in the Prep room.
Failure to study during these times may result in boys having to study at School.
11. All third to fifth formers must have a homework diary for a Master to check.
