What do I do if I have forgotten (or misplaced) my son's exeat form?

Ring your son's Housemaster (Mr McNeil, Blue House 09 623 5436, or Mr Lassche, Gold House 09 623 5433). A fax will then be required confirming where your son has been.

Who should I ring if my son is not going to be back at the Hostel after a weekend exeat?

Ring your son's Housemaster, or the Senior Housemaster. They will then inform both the weekend duty master and the matron. (A list of phone numbers is included on the back page of the handbook)

What is the procedure for applying for early leave from the Hostel?

You need to send a fax to the Hostel. Your son will then take this fax to school and apply for leave through the Deputy Headmaster, Mr Moore.

If I cannot get hold of my son on the Hostel phones, whom should I ring?

Call his Housemaster or the Senior Housemaster. They will then get hold of your son and he will return your call. In case of emergencies, go through the same process.

Is my son allowed a cell phone in the Hostel?

Yes he is allowed a cell phone. There are certain times when the phone must be turned off and your son will be informed of this. Failure to adhere to these rules will see the cell phone confiscated for a period of time.

What is the difference between a sign out and an exeat?

A sign out is after school and in the weekends. It tells the master where your son will be. An exeat is persons' house where your son has signed out to for the weekend.

If my son is struggling academically what tutoring is offered?

Tibbs House offers extra tuition in Maths. There are several tutoring agencies in the Newmarket area and these details are available from the staff at Tibbs House. All masters at Tibbs House are full time teachers and offer tutoring during there allocated prep times.

How will my son get to his sports game in the weekend?

Your son should ask his coach for transport to the game. Also parents of day boys may offer to transport the Hostel boys. If pays for your son to collect phone numbers of his team members. Please note the Tibbs House boys are NOT allowed to be transported by day boys driving their own cars.

If I wish to add someone to my sons exeat list, whom should I contact?

Ring or Fax your son's Housemaster and he will add the person to your son's exeat list.

Can we send food parcels to our son?

Yes. Your son has a locker where he can store any parcels from home. He is also provided with a padlock to lock his locker. We encourage lockers to be locked at all times. Food parcels should be kept in an air tight container.

Can my son exeat out of the Hostel if he is on weekend duty?

Yes, but under special circumstances (birthdays, family gatherings etc.) Your son will arrange a swap with another boy. Please inform the Housemaster well in advance so he can assist with the duty swap.

What are 'gardening's', 'gating' and weekend 'gating'?

Gardening's are run by the Prefects and normally take place at 6:00pm. Boys are issued gatings by Masters/Matrons for failure to do duties. The boys are confined to Tibbs House after school that day and do some work around the Hostel. Masters issues weekend gatings for serious offences. The boys cannot exeat out for the weekend and will be required to work around the Hostel.

Can my son bring a bike to Tibbs House?

Bikes, scooters and skateboards are not permitted at Tibbs House House. If your son is in the mountain biking club or School cycling team he can store his bike at Tibbs House.

My son is a vegetarian. Can Tibbs House cater for this?

Yes. The Hostel caterers can cater for different diets.

When visiting our son whom should we see?

As a matter of courtesy please see the duty master when you are on site.

Is there access for my son to store his musical equipment?

Yes. Your son can store his gear in the music room and there are several locations around the Hostel to practise.

During school holidays does my son have to bring his entire clothing etc. home?

Your son is encouraged to take all of his possessions home. Many boys start taking their gear home in the weekend leading up to the holidays. Some bags may be stored in the music room over the breaks.

Bus Companies and Train information

The Train system leaves from Newmarket to Papakura. Buses leave from Tibbs House to go North on Fridays. Boys should book seats on these buses.
