4. Personal clothing/After school wear

Boys should have clothing to wear outside school hours, which they are comfortable and warm in. These should be of a reasonable standard and tidy nature which can be laundered normally. Designer clothing is personal choice and cannot be guaranteed with so many boys not to get lost/damaged in the laundry system.

Some recommendations:

7 pairs of underwear
2 singlets
1 set of pyjamas/or boxers for sleeping in
personal trainers/shoes/sandals
personal toiletries, toothbrush, hairbrush coat hangers for lockers
shoe polish, brush/bag for all footwear
5. Personal bedding
2 towels for showers etc
1 towel for swimming/sports etc.
2 flannels
1 duvet cover (you may wish to purchase 2 covers or use a top sheet with duvet cover)
1 duvet inner (summer weight/will need a heavier weight for winter)
2 fitted sheets (non-iron poly cotton)
2 pillow cases (non-iron poly cotton)
1 mattress protector (with elastic corners to fit, washable)

6. Laundry

This is undertaken on site. The turn around period is one day. There is an iron available in the Laundry should your son wish to use it. All items of clothing need to be clearly labelled and we would recommend you order these labels direct. (a recommendation is to order 10 spare for the Matrons to use)

7. Naming of Clothing and Equipment

Each article of clothing, laundry and equipment MUST BE PLAINLY AND SECURELY NAMED. WOVEN NAME TAPES are the most serviceable. These are more expensive initially, but are cost effective as they eliminate the need for the replacement of lost garments. An order form for the procurement of these is enclosed.

Note: Laundry marking pen or ball-point pen is NOT SUITABLE as it washes out in the laundry. Iron-on tapes come off in the wash and some types of commercially printed tape will disintegrate after a few washings. Our laundry staff handle hundreds of garments daily and do not have the time to search for labels sewn on in non-standard places, or to decipher frayed and faded labels.

Labelling is the responsibility of parents. Please name shirts at the centre back of the neckband; trousers and pyjamas at the centre back and socks at the tops of the leg opening. Please ensure you supply Matron with some spare labels when your son arrives at Tibbs House. In special circumstances only it is sometimes possible for the laundry staff to sew on the occasional label.

All unnamed articles of clothing or items of clothing left lying around the House are redeemable for 50c cash per item. They will be held for pickup until the beginning of the new term - please check the bags in Matron's Office when paying your fees; if unclaimed they will be donated to a worthy cause. Please ensure your boy(s) are aware of this rule - it could save you money.

The Matrons or Senior Housemaster will be pleased to provide any further information required. No responsibility can be accepted for articles which, for any reason, are not named or are unclaimed.
