General Information

General Conduct

a) Any boy enrolled at Tibbs House as a boarder and at the School as a pupil shall, at all times during the school term, be subject both to these rules and to the rules and regulations of the School.

b) Any boy not enrolled as a boarder at Tibbs House but who at any time enters upon House premises shall, while on such premises, be subject to all of these rules and regulations.

c) All visitors to the House are to report forthwith upon arrival to the Matron or Duty Master and shall strictly observe all directions given to them by such person.

d) No visitors are permitted to enter or remain in any dormitory.

e) No boy may invite any person into the House premises without the prior permission of the Matron or Duty Master.

Clothing and Uniform

a) Boys must at all times be in possession of all of the articles of clothing and uniform specified in the annexed Tibbs House clothing list.

b) All clothing, uniform and personal possessions must be clearly named at all times. New clothing or personal items purchased or brought into the House during the term must be named immediately.

c) Unnamed or improperly named clothing and personal items left about the House may be impounded. A fine not exceeding $1.00 may be charged for each impounded article.

d) Boys are required to wear uniform on any occasion specified by the Senior Housemaster. All items of the official uniforms must be ready for use at any time. At all other times boys may dress casually.

e) A plain black is the only type of belt which may be worn with any uniform.

Dormitories

a) Dormitories are to be kept clean, neat and tidy at all times and all beds are to be made every morning.

b) Dormitories are to be swept every day.

c) Boys are to stand by their beds immediately the inspection bell has been rung and are to remain there until dismissed by the Duty Master.

d) There is to be no fighting.

e) There is to be no talking or noise after "lights out".

f) Boys are responsible for their own valuables. All valuable items should be locked in wardrobes when not in use.

Hygiene

a) All bathrooms and toilets are to be kept clean, neat and tidy at all times.

b) Any malfunction in bathrooms or toilets is to be reported to Matron or the Duty Master forthwith.

c) All boys must shower at least once per day.

Sickness

a) Any boy suffering from any illness or injury must report to Matron forthwith and shall thereafter observe all directions given by Matron as to attendance and/or treatment.

b) Senior boys in charge of Dormitories must advise Matron before breakfast of any boy who is sick.

c) If a boy is placed in Sick Bay by Matron he must remain there until he is released by Matron.

d) Matron may, in consultation with the Senior Housemaster, require boys suffering from illness or injury to be taken home.

e) When a boy is absent from school through sickness or injury Matron will provide him with a note explaining such absence, which is to be provided to the School upon his return in compliance with Rule 3(e) of the School Rules.

f) Boys who through sickness or injury are sent home, or whose return to the House and School after vacation or exeat is delayed must bring with them upon return a note signed by parent or guardian stating the actual dates of absence, full reasons for absence, and the boy's name and form. Such notes are to be shown in the first instance to Matron then to the Headmaster and when signed by him delivered to the boy's Form Master.

g) In any case where a boy's return from vacation or exeat is delayed through illness or injury, the parent, guardian or person having responsibility for the boy must telephone the Senior Housemaster or the Matron to advise the circumstances and the boy's whereabouts.

Exeats and Leaves

a) Daily signing Out

(i) Other than for the purpose of attending School during normal school hours no boy may leave the House grounds at any time without permission from the Duty Master to whom requests are to be made during inspection.

(ii) In emergencies only, Matron may sign boys out.

(iii) Leave to visit Newmarket or the City between 3.30 p.m. and 5.15 p.m. on weekdays or on Saturdays and Sundays may be granted on such terms and subject to such conditions as are, from time to time, specified by the Senior Housemaster.

b) Exeat Leave Subject to the approval of the Senior Housemaster exeat leave will generally be given on the following terms:-

(i) Weekend leave is defined as leave from after school on Friday until 8.00 p.m. on Sunday, or from midday Saturday until 8.00 p.m. Sunday, depending on a boy's sporting commitments.

(ii) Weekend leave as herein before defined for a boy to visit his home or to accompany his parents or guardian when in Auckland will normally be granted.

(iii) Parents of overseas students may nominate a home substitute in writing for the purposes of the foregoing rule.

(iv) Other than home weekend leave, a boy may have four other weekend leave exeats per term to the homes of persons nominated by parents or guardians in writing and supplied in an approved visiting list to the Senior Housemaster.

(v) On any weekend or special leave all boys must have their exeat form signed by the Senior Housemaster or his Deputy and signed by the person visited. Such forms must be available to the Senior Housemaster upon a boy's return. (vi) All applications for weekend leave are to be completed and delivered to the Senior Housemaster not later than the preceding Wednesday evening.

(vii) All boys must return to the House not later than 8.30 p.m. Sunday evening. If a boy is late returning the person delivering the boy must personally see the Master on Duty for the boy's House.

Shoe Cleaning

a) All shoes are to be kept clean at all times.

b) Shoes may only be cleaned at the shoe cleaning stand.

Pocket Money

a) The lending of money by one boy to another is prohibited.

b) Boys must not leave sums of money in their dormitories or elsewhere. Neither Tibbs House nor the School can accept any responsibility for any money lost or mislaid.

School Swimming Pool

a) Rule 11 of the School Rules applies at all times.

b) The pool may only be used outside school hours at such times and subject to such restrictions as are specified by the Senior Housemaster or the Housemasters.

c) No boy may swim in the pool outside school hours unless a Master is present.

Fire Escapes

a) Fire escapes are to be used only during an emergency or a fire drill and are not to be used at any other time.

b) In the new building the fire escape doors must not be opened except in the case of emergency.

Paid Employment

Boys may have paid employment upon the following terms:-

a) That such employment is approved in all respects by the Senior Housemaster.

b) That parents or guardians have given written approval, nominating the name and telephone number of the employer, the nature of the work and the permitted hours of work.

General

a) Smoking, drinking alcohol, the use of drugs or narcotics except only for use strictly in medications prescribed by a registered medical practitioner, gambling or any game of chance, and possession or distribution of any indecent or pornographic material is prohibited.

b) Boys must not enter or travel in any motor car driven by any other pupil at the School except for good reason approved by the Senior Housemaster or on official school business.

c) Any damage to or breakage of Tibbs House property must be reported immediately to the Senior Housemaster.

d) Boys must wear some form of footwear to meals or when in the dining hall.

e) The kitchen is out of bounds to all boys except those with specific duties.

f) The laundry is out of bounds at all times.

g) Except in the case of seventh form boys with the prior permission of the Senior Housemaster, no boy may bring to or have any motor vehicle or motorcycle at or in the vicinity of the School or Tibbs House and available for his use.

h) No boy is permitted at the House during school time unless he has permission from the Senior Housemaster or a Housemaster.

Regulations

Subject in all respects to the approval of the Headmaster, the Senior Housemaster may at any time and from time to time make such regulations as are not inconsistent with these Rules for the day to day operation and administration and management of Tibbs House and the control and conduct of the boys enrolled therein. Such regulations, once promulgated and published, shall have full force and effect as if they were part of the Rules and shall be observed by all boys at all times.
