Teacher Feedback
The following are quotes from Grammar teachers who are teaching our International students (September 09):
"I have three International students in my 5th form Visual Arts class, Eric Liu, Eric Wu and Roo Douyere. THey are all splendid characters, each very different, but all bring something to the lessons. All the boys have fitted in really well. Liu shows extraordinary talent in Art and is very polite and a lovely personality. Wu is a really outgoing and funny person and is very good at composing artwork, is very conscientious and will complete a really good Folio board. Roo is a pupil who, socially, has fitted in particularly well. The boys love him and so do I! He is a kind and caring person, and produces some truly original work to great standard. International students are fantastic!"
"It is a real shame to see that Danwibun (Form 6) will be leaving. I taught him last year and he is a superb student and first class young man. It would be nice to think he might be able to complete a 7th form year here. I also currently teach Dopstadt (Form 5). What a superb young man. He has worked incredibly hard to catch up on the work he missed in Term 1 and also to fill gaps in his knowledge. He is a most personable young man and his work ethic is a model to the other students. He is also most appreciative of any efforts made on his behalf."
"I have taught Hong (Form 7) in Visual Art over the last 2 years. He is the most technically talented students of art I have taught in the last 5 years. Whilst he had exceptional drawing skills when he arrived, his conceptual and critical thinking skills within the visual arts was limited. At the Auckland Grammar Art Department we were able to expand on his skills and more importantly increase knowledge and options in the Visual Arts. As a result Hong's work has taken on a more advanced style and he has produced works of art of maturity and contemporary style."
"I teach Dayshun (Form 5, from Russia). He's a mature, friendly young man who is making good progress for someone who spoke no English when he arrived at the start of this term. I've sat him beside a boy with neat writing and he's impressed me with the effort he's shown to get down all the work. I also had two games of badminton with the German student, Dopstadt (Form 5) and was impressed by this very friendly student who relates well to his peers and teachers and made every effort to learn from the coaching tips I gave him."
"Two students who stand out for me are J H Park (Form 7) and J Choi (Form 7). Park is a delightful young man who commands much respect from the Korean community in the school He is unfailingly polite and helpful and really is grateful for the opportunities the school has given him. He has been a very reliable tennis captain and is able to organise his teams very capably. I believe he is also captain of a football team. He is one of the more colourful characters around the school and his infectious personality will be greatly missed when he leaves. Choi is a quiet, mature and responsible young man who I have got to know through tennis where he has been a totally reliable, organised and committed tennis captain. Other activities he has taken part in include fencing, badminton and the concert band. He has also been an academically successful member of 7A. It has given me great pleasure to have been associated with these two fine young men and I hope they keep in contact with me and the school after they leave to pursue their promising careers."
"I teach Chemistry to Choi and Zhao (both in Form 7). Choi has worked very hard this year and I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching him. He has gained a very good understanding of Chemistry at A2 and has enjoyed participating in group discussions and presentations. He has gained a very good level of dexterity and can perform experiments to a good level of accuracy. He is well motivated and a very polite and pleasant student to teach. I have enjoyed working alongside Choi even though it has been for a short time and I hope that he will continue with his Chemistry next year at University. Zhao is a very hardworking and committed student and I have really enjoyed teaching him this year. He always asks very good questions and is genuinely interested in the subject. He has made very good progress throughout his A2 year and his practical work clearly shows a high level of dexterity. Zhao always contributes in lessons, both in discussions and recently in a group presentation. I hope that Zhao will continue with Chemistry at University as he has put a lot of hard work into this year and deserves to succeed."
"I taught EHT Tuku'aho (Form 4) for the first split of Art Graphics. He was a great student and worked very hard. I also taught him last year for art and he always works very hard. J Wang is an extremely hard working student who is very polite. Wang is always eager to learn and develop his design skills and knowledge."
"EHT Tuku'Aho (Form 4)) is a great student to teach. He has a cheerful and sunny disposition. His classwork and any homework set are always completed promptly and are always well thought out. He is always imaginative in his ideas and gives many insightful contributions in class. He is always respectful towards his teachers. Tuku'Aho is a good example of a hardworking and conscientious Grammar student."
"K M Lee (Form 4) is a new student to the school. He seems to have settled down very well in class where he is well behaved and is integrating well into the Grammar culture. He has shown good improvement in his classwork and should continue to improve if he keeps up his hard work. A very pleasant student to teach."
