Henry Cooper Book

Henry Cooper's connection with AGS spanned a very impressive 65 years (1925-1990), where he was first a student, then a teacher and finally a headmaster. His career coincided with massive developments both in our country's history and in the education sector, and in the last two decades of his life, Henry Cooper exerted a major influence over the growth of the University of Auckland.

The book, written by Andrew Mason and sponsored by the Auckland Grammar School Old Boys' Association with the support of the Woolf Fisher Trust, represents a bridge between the centennial history and its sequel.

Judge David Baragwanath recently reviewed the book in the New Zealand Herald, commenting that its importance extends beyond those who experienced Sir Henry Cooper's formidable qualities at first hand. 'Cooper's unremitting application of personal standards took him from farm boy to the best know educationalist of his time,' points out Baragwanath.

It is an essential addition to any Grammarian's book collection, but it is also an ideal present for any AGS Old Boy, especially from the Cooper Era. Copies of this first edition, which had a hardback print run of just 1000 (comprising 400+ pages of text and 32 pages of photos), are available from the AGS Development Office, Augusta House, 25 Mountain Road. You may also order by phone on +64 9 623 5639. The discounted price for members of the Grammar Community is $10. Postage and packaging within New Zealand brings the price to $10 plus postage.
