Economics

Economics at Auckland Grammar School is offered through the dual pathway of NCEA and Cambridge International Examinations. Students enter a course of study based on their results from Years 9 and 10. In general CIE courses require a greater depth of knowledge and ability with written expression than the corresponding NCEA Level. The timetable currently allows some students the choice of studying AS Economics from Year 13.

Form 4 (Year 10)

4EBS

An introduction to Economics and Business Studies covering a wide variety of topics.

Form 5 (Year 11)

IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education). No pre-requisite.
3 examination papers assessing a wide range of economic topics from introductory micro and macro theory.

Form 6 (Year 12)

NCEA Level 2. No pre-requisite.

6 (3 External and 3 Internal) Achievement Standards covering 3 main macroeconomic issues (inflation, international trade and economic growth).

AS Level. No pre-requisite.

2 examination papers covering microeconomic market theory, market failure and measurement in the macro economy.
 

Form 7 (Year 13)


NCEA Level 3. No pre-requisite.

5 (4 External and 1 Internal) Achievement Standards covering market theory, the behaviour of firms, market failure and aggregate (macro) economic activity.

A2 Level. Pre-requisite: Sound AS pass

2 examination papers covering the theory of the firm, labour markets, government intervention, macroeconomics and development economics.
