Accounting & Business Studies

Introduction

The Department of Accounting and Business Studies is a growth area at Auckland Grammar School.

Accounting continues to maintain its popularity and Business Studies (a new and rigorously academic course) has established itself as a useful introduction to the world of business. Some of the areas that Business Studies focuses on are as follows:

Knowledge and understanding of the environment within which business activity takes place;
The major groups and organisations within and outside business;
Roles and purposes of business activity in both the public and private sectors;
How the main types of business and commercial institutions are organized, financed and operated;
Boys learn Accounting Business Studies(ABS) or Economics Business Studies (EBS)at the 4th form level. Therefore, they are able to sample the topics and concepts that will be covered in Accounting, Business Studies and Economics at the IGCSE level. This allows them to make a more informed choice when entering into the senior level of study.

The topics covered in the NCEA pathway are similar to that covered at School Certificate, Sixth Form Certificate and University Bursary courses in the past.

The CIE pathway offers the very able students Accounting and/or Business Studies at IGCSE Level (Form 5), AS Level (Form 6) and A2 Level (Form 7).
