Academic
- Streaming by attainment

- Homework given everyday and checked
- Belief in competition

- Recognition of achievement: “Crossing Stage”
- Belief in external exam system
Discipline/Classroom Management
- Clear expectations and parameters
- Referral procedure: Form Master - HOD - Dean - Executive
- Detention and Clean Up Punishments
- Learning of others must not be jeopardised
Uniform
- AGS is a uniform school
- Exemplary uniform of boys is expected both in and out of the classroom
- Key elements:
- Shirts tucked in
- Socks with garters worn up
- Black leather belt with shorts
- Black, hard leather lace up shoes
- Brown, leather sandals with back strap
- No obviously dyed hair or unusual hair styles
- No jewellery
Co-curricular
- Student participation in co-curricular activities is encouraged and expected
- Key people to see:
- Director of Sport is Mr Hansen
- HOD Music is Mr Sherwood
- Master i/c Performing Arts is Mrs Hellens
- Master i/c Debating is Ms McGowan
- Deputy Headmaster with Co-curricular oversight is Mr Metzger
Assembly
- School starts each day with a full school assembly at 9am
- Boys sit in pre-ordained form rows
- Form master takes the roll
- All boys must be in Hall by 8.50am
- Assembly is for daily notices, occasional guest speakers, music performances and student recognition of achievement (“crossing stage” is a highly sought after accolade). Assembly is critical in the Grammar ethos because:
- It sets the tone for the day: a formal dignified event
- It keeps everyone informed
- It is great for role modelling
- It rewards achievement
- It showcases talent
- It generates strong school spirit
- Honours’ Boards around Hall symbolise the spirit of Grammar
