AUT MEN Programme

MEN (Males is Education Now) is an education engagement initiative for Year 10 males in Auckland schools which was created, and is facilitated, by the staff at AUT University.

MEN engenders a proactive prevention strategy, addressing the need for young men in New Zealand to foster the “right” values, in a society which is rapidly changing. In remaining true to those positive values, the programme importantly pushes the value of education in leading a “quality life”. The programme seeks to equip students with skills, experiences and new role-models to use as tools in forging academic leadership in their respective schools.

The programme which is run by AUT sees Auckland Grammar School select twenty 4th form students per year who would benefit from an even greater level of direction and confidence in his academic education and life.

There is only minimal impact to a student’s academic class time, although a two day camp forms a significant cornerstone in the programme’s success. Other events include a day of constructing and racing Blokarts, a trip to AUT University to observe the value of secondary school subjects in the tertiary education environment, and importantly, mentoring of the selected programme participants at various workshops throughout the calendar year. Combined these components ensure a highly beneficial learning experience for selected Auckland Grammar School students.
